Duckpuddle Pond Restoration Project, Phase II

#2007WW24

The Heavy Use Area Concrete Pad & Filter Strip: Best Management Practice (BMP) installed at Spear Farms, Inc.

Nonpoint source (NPS) pollution is a challenging water quality problem in Maine and throughout America. To help protect Maine’s threatened waters and to restore NPS impaired waters, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) administers the Nonpoint Source Management Program for the State of Maine. These program resources are assigned to support efforts to improve and protect waters that are threatened or impaired by NPS pollution. Although the challenges to managing NPS pollution are substantial, there is hope for the future of Maine’s lakes & water bodies.  The use of the State agency-defined “Best Management Practice Guidelines” provides opportunities to take action to reduce or remove sources of water pollution.

Funding for this project, in part, was provided by the US Environmental Protection Agency
under Section 319 of the Clean Water Act.  Section 319 grants are administered by the
Maine Department of Environmental Protection in partnership with EPA.
