Open Farm Day: A Wholesome Family Adventure
Highlighting the Value of Locally Grown Produce

With partly sunny skies and warm temperatures, the 21st annual Open Farm Day on Sunday July 25th was a day to remember for everyone involved!  Hundreds of people in the MidCoast area took advantage of the beautiful weather by spending a leisurely afternoon with family & friends visiting local farms and getting to know the people who grow, raise, harvest and produce food and other farm products in the local area.

More than 100 farms across the state of Maine joined in this exciting educational forum, where many farms offered special activities and events including berry picking, petting zoos, sampling delicious farm products, enjoying a hayride, hiking nature trails, milking demonstrations and homemade products for sale. Knox-Lincoln SWCD District Office Manager Katherine Ward visited several farms in the area and received rave reviews from many of this year's visitors well as from farm owners/operators.  "We had a large turnout this year and really appreciate everyone's support. It's a great way to encourage the general public to learn where their food comes from and to speak face to face with the farmers who grow it." stated Ward.

The Knox Lincoln Soil and Water Conservation District would like to personally thank everyone who participated in Open Farm Day for their generosity, contribution and involvement in an effort to develop awareness and educate the public about how food and fiber is produced in Maine.
