Join women woodland owners, foresters, and other professionals for a day-long workshop designed to empower women to manage their woods with confidence. By the end of the day, participants will meet other women woodland owners, feel comfortable contacting a professional for advice, and learn new strategies they can use in managing their woodlands.
Sponsored by Midcoast Conservancy, Forest Stewards Guild, Women Owning Woodlands, Maine Forest Service, Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District, and Maine Farmland Trust.
Facilitating the workshop will be four licensed professional foresters: Allyssa Gregory of the Maine Forest Service, Tish Carr, instructor of community forestry and arboriculture at UMaine, and Barrie Brusila, of Mid-Maine Forestry. Bambi Jones, a founder of Hidden Valley Nature Center, will join the team. HVNC was the 2014 recipient of the Tree Farmer of the Year award for the Northeast Region.
Bring your questions about forest management, share your story of why your land, no matter its size, matters. These indoor and outdoor talks and walks will connect you with knowledge, professionals, and resources to help you take care of your woodland. Whether you manage your family woodlot, work for a conservation organization, or are considering acquiring woodland, this workshop is for you.
Registration: $25 General; $20 for members of Midcoast Conservancy and Maine Farmland Trust, and students. Some scholarships are available. Registration includes morning coffee/pastry and a bag lunch. Workshop will be held rain or shine. Talks will be in a large open-air barn. Walks will be in the woods.
Registration is required.
